Pelvic sonograms are perhaps the most commonly performed procedures in the reproductive endocrinologist’s office. Sonograms are performed to evaluate the uterus and/or ovaries at various times during a menstrual cycle or treatment cycle.
Sonograms can detect the presence of ovarian and uterine cysts and masses as well as monitor ovarian follicle development during a medication treatment cycle. This information helps properly time intercourse, diagnostic tests, intrauterine inseminations and egg retrievals (see section on IVF).
