This test is performed to evaluate the uterine cavity for evidence of abnormal lesions including polyps, fibroid tumors, developmental abnormalities and scar tissue. It involves the introduction of saline through a catheter into the uterine cavity (under ultrasound guidance) and is typically performed after the menstrual period ends and before ovulation. Mild cramping may be experienced. This procedure is performed in the physician’s office. No X rays are involved. A urine pregnancy test will be performed before the procedure. We recommend that you take 600 mg of ibuprofen 30 minutes before the procedure (unless you have a history of an allergic reaction to ibuprofen or a history of gastritis, a gastric ulcer or bleeding disorder).
