Ovulation Induction Medications

Clomiphene Citrate (Clomid or Serophene)

Clomiphene Citrate is a non-steroidal medication used to promote follicular development and ovulation. This medication is typically given for five days early in the menstrual cycle. Approximately 80% of anovulatory women will ovulate on Clomiphene but only about 40% will conceive on this medication. Approximately 5-10% of the resulting pregnancies are twins (< 1% are triplets or higher).

Sonograms are usually performed in order to monitor follicle development and ovulation. Common side effects of Clomiphene include fatigue, hot flushes, irritability and abdominal discomfort.
